Suprascapular Artery Aneurysm Secondary to Severe Shoulder Joint Osteoarthritis

Abstract: Aneurysms of the thyrocervical trunk and collateral branches are rarely encountered. Upon literature review, no documented cases of a suprascapular artery aneurysm resulting from osteoarthritis have been previously described. A 64-year-old female was found to have focal aneurysmal formation within the suprascapular artery. The extensive osteoarthritic changes to the glenoid, including medialization of her joint line, is hypothesized to have led to arterial injury and the observed aneurysm formation. Chronic me… Show more

“…90 patients with ASA grade I ∼ II before anesthesia were selected for shoulder arthroscopic surgery. Rotator cuff injury was diagnosed before operation [ 14 ]. The cases were randomly divided into three groups, 30 cases in each group: group A was the general anesthesia control group; group B was the obstruction of the brachial plexus groove between the conventional muscles of ultrasound combined with general anesthesia; group C was a general anesthesia group with modified upper trunk brachial plexus and superficial cervical plexus nerve block under ultrasound guidance.…”

“…The suprascapular artery is the first branch of the thyrocervical trunk and courses superior and posterior to the clavicle. It supplies supra-and infraspinatus muscles [4]. Given the precarious path it takes to reach its intended organs, the suprascapular artery is at risk of injury from the surrounding elements.…”

“…Given the precarious path it takes to reach its intended organs, the suprascapular artery is at risk of injury from the surrounding elements. Summers et al described a case of suprascapular artery aneurysm from continuous wear and tear and vascular injury from glenohumeral joint osteoarthritis [4].…”
