“…The last cited authors reported that an activated carbon with a high amount of carboxylic groups and low pH pzc is an effective adsorbent of heavy metals. The diverse characteristics of activated carbon are incorporated by physical or chemical activation and depend on the type of precursor, activation conditions, activation agent, and mode (Kasnejad et al 2012;Ceyhan et al 2013). Furthermore, the non-uniform adsorption sites in AC provide complex and varied interactions during the adsorption process .…”

“…The porous structures is divided according to the diameters of the pores into micro pores with a diameter < 2 nm, meso pores with diameters in the size of 2-50 nm and macro pores with diameters > 50 nm. The distribution of these pores, in combination with the specific surface area is dependent on the starting materials and the process parameters used [6][7][8]. According to our (so far unpublished) results the specific surface areas and the pore size distribution is highly dependent on the process used for the production.…”

“…-1 Alternatively, methyl violet number was highest at 110 mg g for 4 hr activation time. As activation time increases, iodine number decreases (Ceyhan et al, 2013). Besides, residence time also influences the porosity development during the activation process.…”
