Surface-enhanced fluorescence from silver fractallike nanostructures decorated with silver nanoparticles

Abstract: Fluorescence emission of fluorophore molecules in the close vicinity of a nanostructured metal surface can be enhanced through a local electromagnetic field with the help of surface plasmon resonance. The fluorescence enhancement effect is very sensitive to the topography and dielectric property of the metal substrate. In the current work, metal substrates with complex structures, which are made of silver fractallike structures and nanoparticles (NPs), are prepared through electrochemical reduction followed by… Show more

“…Zheng investigated PEF effect from the complex metallic nanostructures composed of silver fractal nanostructure and nanoparticles. Compared with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) or pure silver fractal-like structure, the PEF EF, as high as 12-fold, was obtained from the Rh6G molecules on the fractal-like structure decorated with nanoparticles, which highlight the importance of the effect of the dimensional number in fractal nanostructure [71]. Furthermore, the simultaneous observation of SERS and PEF from target molecules, such as Rh6G, MG molecules, on Ag fractal-like structure with proper excitation condition was reported, as shown in Figure 8 [72].…”

“…Such embedded metallic nanostructures are significantly used in various applications, such as optoelectronics, 13 catalysis, 4 detection, 5 and biomedicine. 6 In the field of plasmons, the noble metal nanoclusters, which are dispersed in a transparent glass matrix, exhibit both linear and nonlinear optical surface plasmon resonance (SPR) properties. These nanostructures are highly useful for surface-plasmon-based applications, like surface-enhanced fluorescence, 7 surface-enhanced Raman scattering, 8 and nanophotonic devices and circuits.…”
