“…The volume shrinkage, as a major drawback of PMMA bone cement, has been tackled by its expansion property as the introduction of the expandable substances into the solid or liquid phase. The solid phase modification of PMMA bone cement mainly focused on the improvement of the hydrophilicity like hydrophilic bone cements (HBCs),3,4 and also the additives of the filling materials, such as barium sulfate, bioactive hydroxyapatite (HA) nanoparticles and BMP 2,5–7 could reduce the shrinkage of the matrix. In our previous studies, PAAS fibers and poly(methyl methacrylate‐ co ‐acrylic acid) [P(MMA‐AA)] microspheres were incorporated into the solid phase of commercial PMMA bone cement to eliminate its shrinkage 8,9.…”

“…[5,6] Especially, the transformation of waste products into high-quality products such as activated carbons has gained high importance during the last years. [7][8][9] Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) has advantages compared with other carbonization methods such as pyrolysis [10][11][12] or hydrothermal liquification. [13][14][15] HTC takes place in autoclaves at reaction temperatures <300 C and allows the direct carbonization of wet biomasses (e.g., manure, sewage sludge) without any drying step.…”

“…The prospect of commercial application has drastically accelerated the growing demand of multifunctional barium sulphate (BaSO 4 ) nanoparticles. BaSO 4 is important in various applications such as catalyst carrier, adsorbent materials, biomedical devices, engineering plastics and so on [1][2][3]. Due to its ability to increase the density of fluid and hydrostatic pressure of a well it reduces blowout and applied as a drilling fluid in off-shore oil production [4].…”
