Surface Modification of Ring-Traveler of Textile Spinning Machine for Substantiality

Abstract: In this report, a study of the wear mechanisms involved in spinning Ring and Traveler of textile industry have been presented. These components, after surface processing with various coatings techniques, were analyzed on the test rig to analyze the wear mechanism. The objective was accomplished by comparing various plasma sprayed coatings on E52100 steel pins using a Pin-on-Disc machine. The surface morphology as well as mechanical properties of the deposited coatings namely WC-Co-Cr, Al2O3+TiO2 (Alumina-Titan… Show more

“…Nano-scale surface morphology greatly affects a surface’s chemistry property ( Marmur, 2004 ; Li X.-X. et al, 2021 ), friction property ( Cao et al, 2021 ; Bains et al, 2020 ), and reflection property ( Selkowitz 2021 ). According to the geometric potential theory ( Peng and He, 2020 ; Han and He, 2021 ), a nano-scale surface can produce high geometric potential.…”

“…The test process involving the Al2O3 ball and the two cermets (WC/TiC-Co) and the reference (WC-Co) samples have undergone friction and rotary sliding tests at a high temperature using a tribometer (CSM Instruments Switzerland) (Fig. 4) [20]. The four considered cermets have experienced tests, at two speeds (Table 4), using a 6 mm diameter alumina ball with hardness (HV) and density values of 1800 and 3.2, respectively.…”

“…The working life of both the ring and traveler largely depend on their surface characteristics, which also affect the yarn properties (i.e., hairiness). The smoother the surface is, the lower the friction, and the longer the life of the dynamic component and the yarn quality [22,26]. Consequently, some researchers attempt the surface modification of both ring and traveler to improve wear resistance [26].…”
