“…From the FT-IR spectra of N-CDs (see Fig. 3), N-CDs contain many groups derived from the precursor, such as v(Ar-H) (2700-3200 cm À1 , belonging to aromatic C-H stretching vibration 24 ), d(Ar-H) (800-850 cm À1 , belonging to aromatic C-H out-of-plane deformation vibration of substituted benzene ring 25 ), and d(N-H) (1520 cm À1 , belonging to the deformation vibration of -NH 2 or -NHgroups). Other groups, such as v(O-H) (3500 cm À1 , belonging to the deformation vibration of -OH groups in aliphatic alcohols), v(C]O) (1600 cm À1 , belonging to the stretching vibration of carbonyl in carboxyl groups), and v(C-O-C) (1200 cm À1 , belonging to the stretching vibration of ester groups), were formed by ring opening and oxidation reactions.…”

“…17,18 CDs with size below 10 nm show strong fluorescence with tunable emission, good photostability, excellent biocompatibility and easy functionalization. [19][20][21] Because of these properties, various researches have investigated their applications. [22][23][24] Chen et al synthesized CDs for label-free detection of Hg 2+ and Ag + .…”

“…1d ). Two samples have several similar groups, such as Ar-H (2700–3200 cm − 1 [ 33 ], belongs to aromatic C-H stretching vibration), C-C (~ 1433 cm − 1 , belongs to aromatic C-bone stretching vibration, reveals the presence of aromatic stretching vibrations characteristic to benzenoid units) [ 34 ], and C=O (1628 cm − 1 , belongs to the –COOH groups). Compared with sample OpPD, the new groups, such as O-H (3300–3700 cm − 1 and 1175 cm − 1 belong to the –COOH groups), C-O-C (1055 cm − 1 , exist in esters), and C-H (2400–3000 cm − 1 belongs to alkyl radicals formed in ring-opening reaction), are found in the CPDs, while the –NH 2 or –NH– related groups such as N-H (3100–3300 cm − 1 and 1512 cm − 1 and C-N (1126, 1261, and 1305 cm − 1 belong to the free –NH 2 or –NH– groups from p -PD precursor, are weaken or disappeared.…”
