Surface Plasmon Resonance Based on Molecularly Imprinted Polymeric Film for l-Phenylalanine Detection

Abstract: In this study, we designed a simple, rapid, sensitive and selective surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor for detection of L-phenylalaine by utilizing molecular imprinting technology. l-phenylalanine imprinted and non-imprinted poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-methacryloyl-l-phenylalanine) polymeric films were synthesized onto SPR chip surfaces using ultraviolet polymerization. l-phenyalanine imprinted and non-imprinted SPR sensors were characterized by using contact angle, atomic force microscopy and ellipso… Show more

“…Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are polymeric structures prepared by polymerizing a functional monomer with a crosslinker in the presence of a target molecule that acts as a molecular template. [21,22] After the target molecule is removed with a suitable desorption agent, three-dimensional specific cavities belonging to that target molecule are formed in the structure. Molecularly imprinted polymers have important properties such as being inexpensive, easy to prepare, and long-term stability, resistant to harsher environmental conditions such as organic solvent, high pH and temperatures.…”

“…Therefore, the linear equation of the fibrinogen imprinted biosensor between 0.05-3.0 mg/mL concentrations was created as y = 6.7367x-0.5871 with R 2 value of 0.9919. The limit of detection (LOD = 3.3S/m) and quantification (LOQ = 10S/m) of fibrinogen molecules was calculated based on the slope of the calibration curve [24] LOD and LOQ values were calculated as 0.00066 and 0.00219 mg/mL, respectively. Other sensor studies performed for fibrinogen determination are given in Table 1 for comparison.…”

“…[20][21][22] Furthermore, the ability to perform simultaneous assays rapidly allows the use of the instrument for point-of-care applications where multiple parameters are desired to be monitored. [23][24][25] Consequently, the integration of MIMs with the SPR system has been made excellent improvements in sensing technology. [26][27][28][29] In this study, the designed SPR sensing platform was based on the integration of molecular imprinting with SPR system for fibrinogen detection patient serum samples.…”

“…Therefore, a fiberoptic sensor using the SPR (also called fiber-optic SPR sensor) can be designed with different molecular sensor layers on the metal surface. The fiber-optic SPR sensor is a novel bio-chemical sensor that can be applied broadly in the fields of biomolecular interaction analysis, chemical/biological analytes detection and medical diagnostics [5][6][7][8]. It is capable of detecting tiny RI changes of an analyte or other physical quantities that equivalently convert to RI changes [9,10].…”
