Surface Properties of Polyethylene Terephthalate Films Modified by Far UV Radiation at 193 nm

Abstract: The surface of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) obtained with 193 nm pulsed radiation of the ArF excimer laser in air is studied at different fluences for amorphous and semicrystalline samples by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and by etch‐depth measurements. Mainly the surface structure created on PET appears to result from a difference in the etch rate between amorphous and semicrystalline PET.
