Surface waves on a superconductor: beyond the weak-coupling approximation

Abstract: A theory of electromagnetic surface wave propagation on a plane superconductor-vacuum interface is presented for a superconductor with strong coupling. The solution of a self-consistent equation for the energy of elementary excitations is obtained in terms of modified u-v transformation method. The linear response (conductivity) tensor is analysed in the framework of a non-local description allowing for the finite dimension of the Cooper pair. Within the framework of the semi-classical infinite-barrier model… Show more

“…In addition to all of these modes, a semi-infinite SC (or a thin SC film) also supports interfacial hybrid charge-radiation modes dubbed surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), 205 first described by Keller, 206,207 which can be explored for extraordinary transmission through a perforated superconductor with subwavelength holes 208 and for low-loss plasmonics. 209 The energy scale for all these modes is given by the amplitude of the order parameter, which lies in the THz spectral range.…”

“…For example, this conductivity was calculated for BCS model of superconductivity in the frame of RPA in the work [13]. Using modified UV transformations method, the conductivity was calculated for superconductors with a strong coupling [14].…”
