Surgical Excision of a Rare Case of Mammary Analogue Secretory Carcinoma: A Case Review

Abstract: Mammary analogue secretory carcinoma (MASC) is a newly recognized salivary gland neoplasm that shares characteristics with secretory carcinoma of the breast. Since its first description by Skalova et al in 2010, many reviews have been published. While current research has described specific immunohistochemistry and genetic translocations of MASC, there is much in terms of management that remains unknown. We present a unique case of a 20-year-old male with a parotid tumor that was reclassified as MASC based on … Show more

“…The tumoral cells of MASC SG show diffuse and strong expression for pancytokeratin (AE1‐AE3 and CAM 5.2), CK7, CK8, CK18, CK19, epithelial membrane antigen, S‐100 protein, vimentin, signal transducer and activator of transcription 5a, and for mammaglobin, in most reported cases . Other immunohistochemical markers showed variable degrees of immunoreactivity . Except in 2 cases, the tumoral cells of MASC SG are negative for basal/myoepithelial cell markers (calponin, CD10, p63, calponin, CK14, smooth muscle actin, and CK5/6).…”

“…From then on, revisiting the medical literature, retrospective studies, and case reports were integrated to scout the incidence of MASC SG . This systematic review surveys almost all the reported cases, after omitting the repeated cases, in order to define our nosology about MASC SG . In 2013, Sethi et al concluded that MASC SG was claimed to be encountered in men more than in women.…”
