Abstract:Acute pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) can be a life threatening complication of deep vein thrombosis. Surgical embolectomy is a rarely performed and is only reserved for hemodynamically unstable patients, those with massive pulmonary thromboembolism and those with failed thrombolysis therapy.
