Surgical Management of Frontal Bone Fractures

Abstract: Introduction: Frontal bone fractures show a low frequency of occurrence of about 5% to 15% of all maxillofacial fractures occurring due to high-velocity injuries such as in the case of road traffic accidents, sporting events, assaults. Successful surgical management revolves around the concept of minimizing cosmetic deformity, maintaining normal sinus function, avoidance of short and long-term complications. In this article, the authors report a case series of 24 cases of frontal bone fracture treated with var… Show more

“…[33][34][35][36][37][38][39] High-velocity impacts were the most common etiology identified in one study, with road traffic accidents being responsible for 87.5% of all cases. 40 Again, the most common complication was infection followed by persistent frontal sinusitis, supraorbital rim paresthesias, and headaches. 40 The elevated rate of repairs for frontal bone fractures seen in this study may speak to effects caused by altered sensorium induced by cannabis intoxication leading to motor vehicle accidents, though we can make any definitive statements due to a lack of reported etiology in this database.…”

“…2 The frontal sinus fracture occurs in 5% to 15% of all patients with craniofacial injuries. [2][3][4][5][6] Fracture is more prevalent in males than females [7][8][9][10][11] because of their greater involvement in collisions, interpersonal violence, and addictions. 9 Traffic accidents, physical assaults, and falls represent the most common etiologies of these fractures.…”
