“…The risk of varicocele recurrence after treatments widely varies in the literature, with rates ranging from 1.05% after sub‐inguinal surgery, to 2.63% after inguinal and 4.3% after laparoscopic ligature, and to 14.97% after open retroperitoneal high ligation (Jensen et al, 2017). We showed no difference in recurrence rate between treatments, confirming the recent finding from a Cochrane review on subfertile men (Persad et al, 2021). All these findings strengthen the feeling that microsurgical varicocelectomy should probably be considered the current mini‐invasive procedure even if it requires high expertise that is not available in many centres.…”

“…[49][50][51] However, there are mixed results regarding chances of pregnancy and live births. [52][53][54] A systematic review published in 2021 in the Cochrane Library by Persad et al concluded that varicocele treatment improves the chances of pregnancy, but it is uncertain about whether or not it improves live birth rates. 52 By contrast, another systematic review and meta-analysis published in 2020 by Birowo et al found that varicocele repair increases the chances of pregnancy and live birth rates, along with sperm retrieval success in azoospermic men.…”
