Surgical Reconstruction of Traumatic Pseudoaneurysm of Palmar Arch Caused by Blunt Trauma

Abstract: Although rare, pseudoaneurysms (PAs) of the palmar arch are mostly considered benign. However, they can cause severe complications if left untreated or misdiagnosed. There are a few data on traumatic PAs of the palmar arch, particularly those most commonly caused by penetrating hand injuries. However, PAs caused by blunt trauma are more insidious in onset, presenting as a painful pulsatile mass in the palmar area of the hand, and require prompt diagnosis and management to avoid catastrophic sequelae. Our case … Show more

“…During the operation, circulation must be assessed after excision to determine if vascular reconstruction is needed. Signs of inadequate perfusion to the fingers are an indicator for reconstruction , which can be performed with either primary repair of arterial vasculature with end-to-end anastomosis or vein graft interposition 12,15,21 . Typically, aneurysms in the palmar arch and/or common digital arteries are treated with simple excision due to the compensating vascular anatomy 4 .…”
