Surveillance, isolation and complete genome sequence of bovine parainfluenza virus type 3 in Egyptian cattle

Abstract: Parainfluenza virus type 3 (PIV-3) can infect a wide variety of mammals including humans, domestic animals, and wild animals. In the present study, bovine parainfluenza virus type 3 (BPIV-3) was isolated from nasal swabs of Egyptian cattle presenting with clinical signs of mild pneumonia. The virus was isolated in Madin-Darby bovine kidney (MDBK) cells and confirmed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The complete genome of Egyptian BPIV-3 strain was sequenced by using next generation … Show more

“…Amplified single BPI-3 fragment was sequenced and analyzed with already available BPI-3 sequences at the NCBI database to confirm the disease. It was closely related to the BPI-3 sequences from the USA, Egypt and Japan [49][50][51]. This confirms the circulation BPI-3 in the Indian bovine population.…”

“…El virus de la PI-3 es uno de los patógenos respiratorios virales más importantes del ganado joven y adulto asociado con el CRB (17) . En el municipio de Montería se ha informado una prevalencia del 13.5 % en bovinos de doble propósito (7) y 41 % en terneros recién nacidos (12) ; en el departamento de Antioquia en la raza criolla Blanco Orejinegro, se reportó una prevalencia de 68.9 % (18) .…”

“…To date, based on phylogenetic analysis, three known BPIV-3 genotypes, designated A(BPIV-3a), B(BPIV-3b) and C(BPIV-3c), have been described [2,6]. Genotype A was first isolated in the United States, but has also been isolated in Egypt, China and Japan [6,7]. Genotype B was first reported in Australia [4].…”
