Abstract

TwO' surveys were cDnducted Df vDlunteers wDrking fDr recreatiDn Drgani-zatiDns in fDur New SDuth Wales regiDns. The results highlight the dependence Df these DrganizatiDns Dn vDlunteers. V Dlunteers were fDund to' be heavily engaged in instructing and Drganizing recreatiDn activities. Few have any specific training fDr the rDle althDugh further training is frequently cDnsidered desirable by respDndents. Many respDndents indicated that the gDvernment cDuld assist vDluntary wDrk by prDviding-• training at the local level, • general financial assistance, and • subsidies fDr equipment and facilities. Generally, respDnses indicate that the gDvernment shDuld playa supportive rather than cDntrDlling rDle in recreatiDn.
