Survival and Disease Recurrence in Patients with Duodenal Neuroendocrine Tumours—A Single Centre Cohort

Abstract: Background: Duodenal neuroendocrine tumours (D-NETs) are rare but increasingly diagnosed. This study aimed to assess the overall survival and recurrence rate among patients treated for D-NETs. Methods: Patients with D-NETs were retrospectively reviewed with a median follow-up time of 4.8 years (range 0.0–17.2 years). Results: A total of 32 patients with median age 68.0 years were identified. Fifteen patients underwent surgery while ten patients underwent endoscopic treatment. Mean estimated overall survival fo… Show more

“…The patient under our evaluation conforms to the prevailing pattern observed in neuroendocrine tumor diagnoses of the small intestine, having been identified with a subocclusive intestinal condition induced by mass effect. This alignment underscores the observations made by various authors regarding the latent progression of the condition until generic clinical manifestations emerge, leading to its detection [2,3,8,10,11,15,18,23,24].…”

“…Nevertheless, patients in advanced stages face a considerable risk of recurrence. Timely diagnoses correlate with improved treatment prognoses [2,4,7,9,24,25].…”

“…Duodenal NENs account for approximately 2-3% of all GEP-NENs [26]. Tumors can be divided into gastrin-producing tumors, somatostatin-producing tumors, and functional inactive tumors, which are located roughly around the duodenal papilla [27][28][29].…”
