Abstract:We investigate the survival probability and the associated distribution of first-passage times to a periodic array of absorbing pillars confined between two parallel reflecting planes. We approximate the periodic cell of this system by a cylindrical tube containing a single pillar. Using a mode matching method, we obtain an exact solution of the modified Helmholtz equation in this domain that determines the Laplace transform of the survival probability. This solution reveals the respective roles of several geo… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
