Susceptibility to tigecycline of Acinetobacter baumannii strains isolated from intensive care unit patients

Abstract: Background: Infections caused by Acinetobacter baumannii are difficult to cure due to the acquisition of resistance by these bacteria and lead to an increase in the general costs of hospitalization. The aim of this study was to determine tigecycline susceptibility of Acinetobacter baumannii strains isolated from intensive care unit and non-intensive care unit patients with skin and soft tissue infections. Methods: MICs were tested by Etest among 70 Acinetobacter baumannii isolates. Results: The MIC range was f… Show more

“…The currently available treatment options for CRAB include minocycline, tigecycline, eravacycline, polymyxins, and cefiderocol ( 3 , 5 7 ). The emergence of pandrug-resistant A. baumannii worldwide clearly demonstrates the impact of emerging resistance to last-resort antimicrobials (such as tigecycline and polymyxins) ( 8 ).…”

“…TGC also plays an important role in the treatment of multidrug-resistant strains infection including vancomycin-resistant enterococci, methicillin-resistant staphylo-cocci, and acinetobacter baumannii. Therefore, TGC is considered as a therapeutic option for MDRAB infection [4,5] . TGC has been approved for the treatment of complicated skin and skin-structure infections, complicated intra-abdominal infections and community-acquired pneumonia because of the widely distribution in tissue after intravenous infusion [6] .…”
