Sustainability decision support framework for industrial system prioritization

Abstract: A multicriteria decision-making methodology for the sustainability prioritization of industrial systems is proposed. The methodology incorporates a fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process method that allows the users to assess the soft criteria using linguistic terms. A fuzzy Analytic Network Process method is used to calculate the weights of each criterion, which can tackle the interdependencies and interactions among the criteria. The Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluation approach is used… Show more

“…Unlike the data collection of the quantitative criteria, the information of the qualitative criteria can only be measured by subjective cognitions. Typically, there are two ways, that is, the scaling system methods and the pairwise comparison approaches, which are usually adopted for quantifying human's subjective judgments . Compared with the scaling system that directly assigns scale numbers to the evaluation elements, the pairwise comparison approaches, like AHP, provide the users with a more accurate quantification result by creating pairwise comparisons.…”

“…Hacatoglu et al [7] developed a novel sustainability assessment methodology for hybrid energy system with hydrogen-based storage using life cycle emission factors and sustainability indicators. Ren et al [24] established a sustainability decision making framework for the prioritization of hydrogen production pathways based on fuzzy Analytic Network Process and PROMETHEE (Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations) method with the considerations of both hard and soft criteria. There are also many studies specially focusing on the sustainability of biomass-based hydrogen production.…”

“…Multicriteria decisionmaking (MCDM) methods can be adopted to address these issues and thus provide solid and logical backbone for the model (Khoshnava et al, 2016;Talukder, Hipel, & vanLoon, 2018). Various MCDM methods have been adopted in various decision making situations, such as analytical hierarchy process (AHP; Ren, Manzardo, Mazzi, Zuliani, & Scipioni, 2015;Sambasivan & Fei, 2008;Thanki, Govindan, & Thakkar, 2016;Tseng, Lin, & Chiu, 2009), ELECTRE (Hatami-Marbini & Tavana, 2011Kaya & Kahraman, 2011a;Wen, Yu, & Yan, 2016), TOPSIS (Joshi & Kumar, 2016;Kaya & Kahraman, 2011b;Kluczek & Gladysz, 2015), and PROMETHEE (Arıkan, Şimşit-Kalender, & Vayvay, 2017;Athawale & Chakraborty, 2010;Ren et al, 2016). These methods are either adopted solely or combined together with other MCDM methods to take full advantage of different methods (Chauhan & Singh, 2016;Kaya & Kahraman, 2010;Sánchez-Lozano, García-Cascales, & Lamata, 2016;Sreekumar & Rajmohan, 2018).…”
