Sustainable Determinants That Affect Tourist Arrival Forecasting

Abstract: This study considers diversification effects and significant influences on tourist arrivals as a vital export direction. Different quantitative methods, namely a cointegrated-autoregressive model, panels, sentiment and sensitivity analysis, were used in this study. The time-series data for Croatia and Slovenia were isolated from several secondary sources. The variables examined in this approach are tourist arrivals, precipitations, sunny days, earthquakes, microbes and CO2 emissions. The study results showed t… Show more

“…COVID-19 greatly affected the travel and tourism industry. The emergency measures were applied on tourist locations that put a large impact on the people's mobility [77]. According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the arrivals of international tourists was decreased by 72% from January 2020 to October 2020.…”

“…Based on a comparison of previous research [51], a categorisation of six contributions that consumer sensory science can make to sustainable development is proposed, which includes (1) promoting a dietary shift towards more sustainable foods and diets, (2) increasing food diversity, (3) reducing food waste, (4) improving the circular economy of the food system, (5) increasing and prioritizing food-related well-being, and (6) addressing the impact of climate change on CO2 emissions and energy consumption during the freezing period. On the other hand, some other authors propose a differentiated performance of six factors [52,53]. According to their modelling analysis, the six factors can promote the following sustainable consumption practices: (1) the cultivation of sustainable consumption awareness, (2) the government's role in modelling, (3) a set of laws, regulations, and policies, (4) a thorough action plan for sustainable consumption, (5) the insistence of businesses and consumers on sustainable production and consumption, and (6) the concerted efforts of various stakeholders.…”

“…While supply and demand determine prices and tourism uses public services, the integration of the Internet of Things (Lewis 2021), intelligent transportation (Taylor 2021), computational thinking (Konecny et al 2021), Big Data and self-driving cars (Mitchell 2021), and chairs in hotels (Gričar 2014) are the future of tourism development. Therefore, artificial neural networks (Gricar et al 2021) are an essential component of future tourism and hospitality development, as well as technology in research on smart, sustainable cities (Townsend 2021) and destination management (Harris 2021).…”

“…This study further develops approaches started by Gričar and Bojnec (2012) or Pacifico (2021). It uses a VAR model with some degree of integration discussed by Franchi and Paruolo (2021) with real variables of practical importance (Bła żejowski et al 2020;Gricar et al 2021). While normality has mainly been neglected in time-series (Juselius 2021), this research tests for (non)normalities and applies them theoretically (Braione and Scholtes 2016;Cheng et al 2021;Desgagné and de Micheaux 2018).…”
