This chapter explores the role of sustainability in HSC and offers a framework for aligning these chains with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It emphasizes the importance of environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and ethically governed practices in HSC. The chapter introduces ESG criteria and explains their relevance to halal supply chain management, highlighting the need to incorporate these criteria into supply chain strategies. It also discusses how HSC can contribute to achieving SDGs by adopting sustainable practices, such as responsible sourcing of halal ingredients, green logistics, and socially responsible production practices. Case studies highlight successful implementation of sustainable practices in HSC, while also addressing challenges and opportunities, including regulatory issues and possibilities for innovation and collaboration. The chapter concludes with recommendations for practitioners and policymakers to enhance sustainability in HSC, along with suggestions for future research directions.
