Sustainable Energy Security for India: An assessment of energy demand sub-system

Abstract: 121 4 h i g h l i g h t s 15 16A multidimensional Sustainable Energy Security (SES) index is developed. 17 The SES index evaluates the performance of the energy demand sub-system using 23 metrics. The aggregate demand sub-system SES index shows an increase by 10% from 2002 to 2012. 20The index is 30% short of the target implying a large scope for improvement.

“…Meanwhile, he stressed that the demand subsystem is the main driver to attain sustainable and secure energy security development for a country. Based on this result, he conducted a study on India's energy demand system to assess the SES [48]. As a summary, since each country has different development modes, a different strategic focus, and different policy objectives at different periods, the energy security index should be adapted to specific countries or regions for different periods.…”

“…From a more specific and comparative perspective, many studies have been conducted at regional and national levels [13,[24][25][26][27][28][29][30]. Le et al [24] reported the different levels of energy insecurity in Asia, focusing on 12 variables such as CO 2 emissions, CO 2 intensity, energy imports, energy intensity, energy use, fossil fuel energy consumption, and renewable energy consumption.…”
