“…Textiles waste is relatively small in terms of weight as compared to other waste streams, but it has a large impact on human health and environment (James and Lings 2018;Koszewska 2018;Sandin and Peters 2018;Stengg 2019), and the limits of the present take-make-waste business model are extremely visible when examining this industry (Jordão et al 2018;Ewijk and Stegemann 2016). The literature about the circular economy in the textile and clothing sector is flourishing, and more and more business models for particular industries are investigated although there is no standardized circular economy roadmap (Thorisdottir and Johannsdottir 2019).…”

Studies about incremental business models (Ballie and Woods 2018;James and Lings 2018;Hall et al 2010;Jordão et al 2018;Sousa et al 2018;Stål and Corvellec 2017) are already being discussed in the public space and studied by academia. However, transformational innovation has not gained the same momentum, although these are offering real business models of applied circularity.…”

“…According to APA-Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente, the total of municipal wastes produced in 2017 in Portugal was 5 million tons, corresponding to a daily production of 1.32 kgs per capita. Although the textile wastes sent to landfills in Portugal is not completely known and accurate, and also there are some Portuguese companies collecting textiles wastes [11], it is indicated that in other similar countries the textiles percentage is around 5% of solid wastes by volume and 4% by weight [4]. Others studies in different European countries highlights this common general overview about textiles wastes and disposal and the difficulties to solve this environmental problem [12,18].…”
