Sustainable Governance, Energy Security, and Energy Losses of Europe in Turbulent Times

Abstract: The article aims to identify the relationship between energy efficiency and particular indicators of energy losses in Europe. The results of the bibliographic analysis showed a knowledge gap in energy losses in Europe regarding the new challenges of energy security. For the analysis, annual panel data from 32 European countries were collected from 1990 to 2019. The authors used the Jarque–Bera test to assess the normality of the residuals, utilized the Breush–Pagan test for heteroskedasticity check, and applie… Show more

“…It should be noted that snowballing expansion of IT and its penetration throughout all sectors require digitalization of governance at all levels [19,[61][62][63][64][65][66][67]. In this case, the level of governance's digitalization impacts the energy sector [19,61,[67][68][69] and energy security [70][71][72][73][74][75] and, consequently inclusive economic growth. Considering the study [19], the growth of e-governance by one point led to increasing renewable energy by 4.4 points.…”

“…The analyzed data are panels that allow dynamic analysis. In addition, applying panel data increases the number of degrees of freedom, reduces collinearity issues, simplifies model identification, and eliminates or reduces the bias of the estimator [68,69]. The functional model's form relationship between energy and governance efficiency considering the nonlinear impact of electronic government, similar to studies [76,77], can be written as follows:…”

“…It was also previously proved that the indicators of energy consumption in the economy are not only related to the structure of the national economy, but also determined based on the level of the shadow economy in the country [38]. It is important that one of the parameters that increases the level of energy consumption is energy losses in the process of its distribution and delivery [39].…”
