Sustainable Intelligent Energy Management System for Microgrid Using Multi-Agent Systems: A Case Study

Meryem Hamidi,
Abdelhadi Raihani,
Omar Bouattane

Abstract: In this paper, a sustainable, intelligent energy management system for a microgrid based on a multi-agent system (MAS) is studied. The system is designed to address the challenges posed by the intermittence of renewable energy sources. Also, the system optimizes the use of available AC–DC renewable energy sources by utilizing load flexibility and the complementarity of renewable sources. To evaluate the effectiveness of this proposed multi-agent framework, a co-simulation using MATLAB and JADE platforms is con… Show more

“…The seamless integration of renewable energy sources is a fundamental objective in this regard. By maximizing the proportion of renewable energy in the energy mix, our aim is to significantly reduce fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions [11], [12]. This approach will contribute to environmental preservation and facilitate a transition towards cleaner and renewable energy.…”

“…However, the dynamic and decentralized nature of microgrids poses complexities in managing energy supply and demand. To address these challenges, Hamidi, Raihani, and Bouattane [79] proposed a multi-agent system as an intelligent solution that enables autonomous decision making within the microgrid ecosystem. By utilizing the proposed system, the microgrid can optimize energy allocation, storage, and distribution in real time.…”
