The implementation of the sustainable development objectives, requires additional knowledge about underwater landscapes of inland reservoirs. In this article, we assumed that (1) underwater landscapes of lakes are shaped mainly by the type of substrate and the assemblages of flora and fauna inhabiting a given reservoir; (2) vegetation is one of the most important elements of underwater landscapes, which dynamically reacts to environmental changes. This article presents the results of a study on the underwater landscapes of Lake Wielki Staw in the Karkonosze Mountains. Thirteen types of underwater landscapes were distinguished in the lake based on underwater inventory and spatial analysis using ArcGIS 10.7 software. The level of changes that occurred in the underwater landscape studied was determined using the underwater landscape structure maps for 2005, 2011, 2017, and 2021. In addition, the landscape change index ( LCI) for Lake Wielki Staw was determined for 2005–2011, 2011–2017, and 2017–2021. The results obtained indicate that underwater landscapes in lakes, similarly to terrestrial landscapes, are dynamic and subject to changes. In the case of Lake Wielki Staw, the changes in the range of Isoëtes lacustris communities in individual parts of the lake limited the differences in the area of all types of underwater landscapes distinguished. This allows us to use underwater vegetation inhabiting a given reservoir as an indicator of changes in underwater landscapes. Keywords:

This paper presents the calculation and management of water supply and demand under land use/cover changes in the Yarmouk River Basin in Jordan for the years 1997, 2007 and 2017. It aims to analyze and link the changes in the land classes with the water resources supply demand as the groundwater is unable to meet the inhabitants demand, necessitating land management practices. The method includes deriving land use/cover maps using the supervised classification, identifying basin governorates, cities and villages, calculating the basin governorates’ inhabitants, water demand, supply of internal wells, water loss, and actual water consumption. The results showed an increase in the urban area by 3.01%, while forests, rain-fed vegetables and crops declined by 1.57% and 1.09%, respectively. Urbanization appears mainly at the expense of rangelands, an important change affecting water supply from internal wells due to increased pumping to balance population demand. Although it is decreasing per capita, the water demand is high. Changing land use practices, securing inter-basin water resources, and calculating water losses is a challenge of great importance that can manage water shortages and increase actual consumption. This research is important in order to understand the supply demand situation and to aid a wide range of users, water-managers, land-planners and decision-makers.

Development of a Management Plan for the Municipal Ecological Structure

In a world increasingly urbanized, management of cities and spatial planning take an important place in political and technical concerns, and it is in this perspective that the Municipal Ecological Structure (MES) arises in Portugal’s urban planning system. However, this instrument still struggles with some delimitation, regulation and management issues, that challenge its implementation. In order to overcome these problems, this article wants to explore the designing hypothesis of a Management Plan for the Municipal Ecological Structure (MPMES). To support the plan, this study explores the role of ecosystem services and their potential to provide a vision of the value of Municipal Ecological Structure to the territories, to the people, and as an impulse for local sustainable economic growth. In order to gather insights on the contribution of the management plan for the Municipal Ecological Structure implementation, an approach was made, based on interviews, confronting visions and discourses, by planning experts’ contrasts with the stakeholders. Therefore, it was possible to identify, characterize and value the functions performed by the Municipal Ecological Structure of Sesimbra. Ultimately, the objectives, contents, development, approval and articulation with other territorial management instruments were identified as requirements for the Management Plan for the Municipal Ecological Structure development.
