Sustainable Management of Voluntary Culling Risk in Primiparous Zaraibi Goats in Egypt: Roles of Season and Reproductive and Milk Production-Related Traits

Abstract: The purpose of the current study is to reconnoiter the relationships between season (birth season, BS, and kidding season, KS), reproductive traits (birth weight, BW; total litter size at birth, TLS; litter size at weaning, LSW; the number of kids dead, NKD, and; age at first kidding, AFK) and milk production (total milk yield, TMY; average daily milk yield, DMY, and; lactation period, LP), with voluntary culling risk in primiparous Zaraibi goats. Records of 637 primiparous does were collected during the perio… Show more

“…The growth of rabbit requires maintaining animals under ideal microenvironment conditions to allow the expression of good quality traits embedded in their genetic components (Oladimeji et al, 2022). Rabbits have no or few sweat glands, thus making them more susceptible to HS, which has adverse impacts on adaptation, welfare, feed intake and utilization, growth performance, redox balance, and health status (El-Raghi et al, 2023). The employment of eco-friendly feed additives to relief of the negative effect of HS remains an indispensable issue.…”

“…Heat stress (HS) is a condition where homeothermic animals are unable to maintain a balance between heat production and emission (Liang et al, 2022). In many arid and semi-arid regions including Egypt, the elevated ambient temperature is over the rabbits thermoneutral zone, which causes a series of unfavorable impacts on rabbit productivity (El-Raghi et al, 2023). As known, HS has multiple adverse impacts on rabbits' health status and their productive performance.…”

“…В одних стадах основною причиною вибракування корів є хвороби та переродження молочної залози [4][5], тимчасом у іншихвтрата відтворної функції через захворювання та патологічні зміни в статевих органах [1]. Ризик вибракування корів залежить від стадії лактації, віку, надоїв, репродуктивного статусу, розміру стада та сезону [6][7]. Відомо, що до 80 % всіх вибракуваних корів це тварини, в яких відмічають різні захворювання, що призводили навіть до їх загибелі [8].…”
