There is a paradigm shift occurring in organizations towards sustainable production through cleaner production strategies. This cleaner production concept has been proven to be cost-effective, result-oriented, environment-savvy and provides the organizations a cutting edge over their counterparts. However, there is a lack of awareness about cleaner production practices in Iraq while the current study analyzed one of the most important factories in Iraq for sugar production to understand the factors required for successful application of cleaner production strategy and the challenges to be expected. In this study, the researchers followed an exploratory research approach. For this study, a questionnaire was designed, validated and distributed randomly among 700 potential respondents working in various departments of the organization under study. Out of the total responses, 482 responses were considered and SEM-PLS analysis was conducted. The cleaner production strategies were applied through nine dimensions and the relationship between the performance of the factory and sustainable supply chain was found to be prominent. With a few limitations such as the choice of a single factory, weak relationship between the variables identified from hypothesis testing, the study is a first-of-its-kind in this domain, especially in dealing with sugar refineries. Based on the outcomes, policy recommendations were made to the decision makers and the government. It can be concluded that the application of modern technologies and effective resource management can help in achieving the goal of the study.

Purpose: This research aims to give managers and organizations with the best means and practices for maintaining sustainable production with the use of SSCM practices during challenging periods, such as global crises, pandemics, or any other circumstance that impacts the business. Design/Methodology: The research sample comprised of managers and department heads employed by enterprises in the Industrial area of Jeddah who were situated in various industries. This research used a non-probability sampling approach with roughly 260 responses from diverse industries. Findings: Each of the variables of the sustainability model have a positive impact on sustainability production during the pandemic with organizational culture, as an exception. Based on the findings, it was found that organizational culture did not affect the sustainability production. Research Implications: In terms of profitability, sustainable enterprises with a networked structure and strong virtuality outperform hierarchical organizations. In difficult situations, shared leadership should be utilized to quickly gather information from all functional areas. People-driven companies are better positioned to endure COVID-19 and future viral outbreaks. Before and after crises, successful organizations utilize ICT to build trust and relationships with employees, stakeholders, and customers. Finally, balancing resource hoarding with resilience is crucial. Continuous functioning of companies requires equipment, cognitive, and human capital. After a pandemic, an organization's capacity to analyze financial sustainability and find other funding sources is critical to survival. Companies with financial contingency plans allowed operations to flourish. Originality/value: This study focuses on the impact of network structure, resilience, organizational culture, distributed leadership, ICT and financial contingency on production sustainability during the pandemic. Sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) has received increasing attention from scholars and practitioners. Despite its importance, we know little about critical aspects of it, as some important gaps are highlighted in the SSCM literature: deepening social dimension, exploring governance mechanisms, and strengthening theoretical development. This research aims to analyze how stakeholder salience and contingency factors influence the extent to which focal firms implement governance mechanisms to address social issues in supply chains. We conduct a multiple case study in six focal firms operating in Brazil. We intend to reduce the shortage of empirical evidence on emerging economies by focusing on a leading emerging country. This study contributes to the literature in three main aspects: (1) We classify social issues into central, peripheral, and remote, based on their priority within SSCM practices from emerging economy cases; (2) We outline three archetypes of social-SCM, namely elementary, selective, and extensive, to reflect the extent that focal firms incorporate social issues within their practices; (3) We also provide a typology to assess the extent to which focal firms address social issues, therefore contributing to reducing the gap regarding the social dimension within SSCM scholarship, combining the stakeholder theory and contingency theory.
