Synchronous breast invasive ductal carcinoma and clear cell renal carcinoma: case report and a review of literature

Abstract: Multiple primary tumors' incidence is rare, yet more rare is the incidence of multiple primary malignant tumors. Co-occurring tumors can be divided into synchronous and non-synchronous. Synchronous tumors are those tumors that present within a period not >6 months from each other. To define synchronous malignant tumors: metastasis should not be present, both tumors have to show criteria of malignancy, and they should differ pathologically from each other. Breast cancer is the most common tumor to be ass… Show more

“…In a study conducted by Beisland et al, it has been revealed that patients with renal cell carcinoma are at high risk of being affected by other cancers even after 10 years of the primary cancer occurrence [17] . Several cases of synchronous renal cell carcinoma with primary breast cancer have been reported [8] . Moreover, Piccinini et al [18] reported 2 other cases of primary breast cancer with renal cell carcinoma.…”

“…However, there were records of family history in the studies conducted by Sordi and colleagues and Dubashi and colleagues [12][13][14][15] . It is believed that estrogen plays a critical role alongside genetic in the emergence of multiple carcinomas by the activation of cell proliferation [8] . The total incidence rate of multiple malignancies is about 0.73% and 11.7% in the literature [16] .…”

“…Primary malignancies of different organs can occur in same When they are detected same time or in time span of 6 months they are termed synchronous tumors whereas when second primary malignancy is detected at time span beyond 6 months of diagnosis of first primary malignancy , they are referred as metachronous tumors [1]. Multiple synchronous primary malignancies can be due to shared genetic mutation [1] Recently more number of cases with multiple primary malignant tumors are being reported probably due to advanced screening protocols and growing awareness of preventive care [2 ].Multiple contributory mechanisms are proposed such as chemicals ,viruses, chemotherapeutic regimens and ionising radiation. Breast carcinomas is commonly associated with endometrial and ovarian carcinomas.…”
