Synchronous primary endometrial carcinoma and metastatic malignant melanoma in an ovarian cystic teratoma

Abstract: ABSTRACTmalignant transformation of a benign cystic teratoma of the ovary is only rarely seen. A review of the english literature revealed no reports of a malignant melanoma developing from concurrent primary endometrial carcinoma and ovarian cystic teratoma. We report herein a 54-year-old nulliparous woman who underwent total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for a pelvic mass and was diagnosed by histopathological examination to have a malignant melanoma developing from concurrent pr… Show more

“…Currently, immunotherapy is approved for advanced endometrial cancer patients who have disease progression following prior systemic therapy. A systematic review of published literature failed to reveal any studies that concomitantly combined immunotherapy and radiotherapy ( Mehnert et al, 2016 , Hasumi et al, 2011 , Genç et al, 2015 , Altorki et al, 2021 , Hatten et al, 2022 ). In the vignettes we presented, it is possible that immunotherapy alone may have eradicated the sites of local and distant disease.…”

“…In our current study, we found 5-year survival rates of 58.8 and 36.7% for SCEO and ECOM, respectively. Most studies comparing SCEO to primary endometrial or primary ovarian cancer have shown a better prognosis for SCEO [15, 16]. Factors that could affect survival, such as disease stage, histological grade, tumour size, and residual tumour tissue after surgery, were compared in 77 cases of double cancer, 132 cases of primary endometrial cancer, and 126 cases of primary ovarian cancer.…”

“…It occurs more frequently in the ovary as a metastatic neoplasm [31] and much less frequently as a primary neoplasm [32]. The first case was described by Andrews in 1901 [33][34][35]. The literature review includes 18 cases since 2010.…”

“…In the case of a patient with brain metastases, the first symptoms were headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and photophobia [38]. In 10 of the 18 analyzed cases, patients had metastases involving the pelvic organs, bowel, appendix, omentum, brain, lung, liver and adrenal gland already at the beginning of the diagnostic process [33,35,36,[38][39][40][41][42].…”
