Synergistic Effect of Triple Ion Beams on Radiation Damage in CLAM Steel

Abstract: The synergistic effect of triple ion beams is investigated by simultaneous and sequential irradiations of gold, hydrogen and helium ions on the low activation martensitic steel (CLAM) developed in China. The depth profile measurements of the positron annihilation Doppler broadening 𝑆 parameter are carried out as a function of slowpositron beam energy to examine the produced radiation damage. The synergistic effect of displacement damage and hydrogen and helium on the formation of radiation damage is clearly o… Show more

“…In the advanced nuclear systems, such as ADS and FUSION reactors, the structure materials not only suffer from high dose neutron bombardment, but also the transmutation products such as helium and hydrogen can couple with radiation damages and lead to the further degradation of material properties, the so called synergistic effect [1,2,3,4,5]. Investigation of the synergistic effect is a currently interesting topic with great importance along with the development of advanced nuclear systems.…”

“…The investigations on the metals and alloys have attracted extensive attention in the past years because of their good performance. [32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39] For the purpose of optimizing the microstructure and mechanical properties of the metals and alloys and extending their practical applications, it is of particular importance to analyze their plastic deformation behavior or stress-strain curves. One of the earliest attempts is the empirical mathematical equation proposed by Hollomon (termed as the Hollomon equation).…”

“…In particular, PAS has been widely applied to study ion beam induced vacancy-type (point or clustered) defects in metals and semiconductors, [64][65][66][67][68][69]. Positrons implanted into a sample can get trapped in and localize at neutral and negative vacancies due to the missing positive ion core.…”
