Synergy Pinch Analysis of CO2 Desorption Process

Abstract: To reduce the regeneration costs of capturing CO2 with absorbents, a two-dimensional desorption model for two-phase flow has been proposed. The temperature and pressure predicted by the model were found to agree well with the experiment data. A new synergy pinch concept was proposed to determine the interactive synergy impacts on mass and heat transfer. According to the proposed synergy pinch principle, the carbon surplus (SAC) and energy surplus (SAE) were defined to quantify the synergy effects for mass and … Show more

“…CEPA was also used in an earlier Chinese case study by Jia XP, et al [74] to show that vis--vis the thenexisting energy planning for a chemical industry park, a further reduction of 10% in GHG emissions could be achieved. In yet another paper dealing with CO 2 emissions control in the Chinese chemical industry, Yu YS et al [75] determined the so-called synergy pinch point with zero CO 2 surplus and zero energy surplus, and recommended the introduction of an energy-efficient gas stripper with fins.…”

“…The body force and drag force are cited from the literature. 10,12 The initial state of v is the velocity of the molecule. Additionally, the chemical and electrochemical reaction rates are usually scalar quantities and out of order, which can be transformed into a unified state due to matter movements and molecular motions.…”

“…The region above the pinch point can be used to represent the relationship between external heating energy and the average temperature, whilst the region below the pinch point represents the relationship between external cooling energy and the average temperature [20]. The pinch point of 50 • C is the temperature where the balance of heating/cooling energy required to maintain an optimal process is zero, with the total load curve providing a tool to guide optimization of the heat exchange network [21].…”
