Forest ecosystems, which contain approximately half of the 12,975 plant taxa known to be distributed in Türkiye, are very important in terms of biological diversity. The fact that forests are seen as wood-producing ecosystems and have been planned for these purposes for many years has resulted in forests being kept away from being evaluated in terms of ecosystem and socio-economic aspects. Today, forest management plans have begun to be prepared in which all components of the forest are considered, and biological diversity is reflected. Based on this understanding, this investigation was performed during 2011-2012 to analyze the forest vegetation of Yaraligöz Education and Observation Forest. The study area is located in the north-western part of Türkiye within the Euro-Siberian phytogeographic region. Phytosociological studies were carried out using the classical Braun-Blanquet approach, and 51 relevés were collected from the research area. The database contains 184 vascular plant taxa, dominated by the Euro-Siberian elements and Hemicryptophytes. The relevés were classified using the Modified TWINSPAN, and the forest vegetation types' distribution was analyzed using non-metric multi-dimensional scaling. A comprehensive comparison among all described syntaxa within the study area and other closely related forests was provided. Topographic factors and mean Ellenberg indicator values were evaluated to interpret the ecological relationships among forest plant associations. Four associations, two (Daphno pontica-Pinetum hamatae and Galio rotundifolii-Abietum equi-trojani) of which are new syntaxa to science, were defined as belonging to the Euxine Province within Erico-Pinetea, Carpino-Fagetea sylvaticae, Quercetea pubescentis, and Vaccinio-Piceetea. The distribution of these four forest associations was mostly affected by light intensity, nutrients, moisture content, and altitude. The results of this vegetation study provided precious knowledge for monitoring vegetation change and nature conservation projects in the Yaraligöz.

AbstractThe Central Anatolian vegetation has diverse site conditions and small-scale plant diversity. For this reason, identification of plant communities is important for understanding their ecology and nature conservation. This study aims to contribute the syntaxonomical classification of the Central Anatolian vegetation. The study area is situated among Güzelyurt, Narköy, and Bozköy (Niğde) in the east of Aksaray province of Central Anatolia in Turkey. The vegetation data were collected using the phytosociological method of Braun-Blanquet and classified using TWINSPAN. The ecological characteristics of the units were investigated with Detrended Correspondence Analysis. Three new plant associations were described in the study. The steppe association was included in Onobrychido armenae-Thymetalia leucostomi and Astragalo microcephali-Brometea tomentelli. The forest-steppe association was classified under Quercion anatolicae in Quercetea pubescentis. The riparian association is the first poplar-dominated one described in Turkey and, classified under Alno glutinosae-Populetea albae and its alliance Populion albae.

The results of complex investigations of Typha laxmannii Lepech (Typhaceae) in Ukraine are presented. The information on the history and modern distribution of the species, its ecological and phytocoenotic peculiarities are summarized. It is a perennial herbaceous plant, alien species of Asian origin which is characterized by a progressive type of range in the country. For the rst time in the ora of Ukraine T. laxmannii (under the name T. stenophylla Fisch. ex Mey.) was recorded in 1902 in the south of Ukraine (Kherson Oblast) by Paczosky. Maps of distribution of the species was prepared on the basis of Ukrainian Herbaria, literature sources and electronic databases. Distribution took place in the northern, eastern and western directions as a hydrochore and anemochore. Now the species is distributed almost throughout Ukraine, but with a majority of records in the central and western parts of Ukraine. The association Typhetum laxmannii formed by this species is common for Ukraine. Depending on the ecological and geographical conditions and oristic composition, 3 following variants in this association were identi ed: var. typica, var. T. latifola, and var. Schoenoplectus lacustris. Coenoses within this association are distributed almost throughout the whole territory of Ukraine, but the ecological optimum of the species coenotic area is observed in the South of the country, in the Steppe zone, on slightly saline, well-watered substrates. Based on studies conducted in Zhytomyr Oblast in 1995-2021, the expansion rate of T. laxmannii was calculated -from the South to the North -in average 16.6±1.09 km•year -1 . From the sites of the primary penetration of the species into the region (Forest-Steppe zone), the expansion rate of it toward to the North was signi cantly lower (7.7-9.0 km•year -1 ) compared to that in the Forest zone -Ukrainian Polissia (23.4-31.9 km•year -1 ).
