Syntheses and Crystal Structures of New ReO 3-Type-Derived Transition Metal Oxide Fluorides. -MNb 2O3F6 (M: Mg, Zn), MgM2OF8 (M: Ti, Zr), Fe2TiO8F, and TiNb 2O5F4 are prepared by stirring the corresponding phase pure mixed-metal oxides in a 1:1 mixture of 48% aq. HF and 48% aq. HNO3 (Teflon beaker, 25 C, 1 d). MNb 2O3F6-type compounds crystallize in the cubic ReO3 type (space group Pm3m, Z = 1, powder XRD), MgTi 2OF8 and MgZr2OF8 in the cubic NaSbF6 type (space group Fm3m, Z = 8), and Fe2TiOF8 in the rhombohedral VF3 type (space group R3c, Z = 3).
