Synthesis and Anticancer Activity of 1,3,4-Thiadiazoles with 3-Methoxyphenyl Substituent

Abstract: Based on the results of previous work, we designed and synthesized 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives. The cytotoxic activity of the obtained compounds was then determined in biological studies using MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells and a normal cell line (fibroblasts). The results showed that all compounds displayed weak anticancer activity towards two breast cancer lines: an estrogen-dependent cell line (MCF-7) and an estrogen-independent cell line (MDA-MB-231). The compound most active towards MCF-7 brea… Show more

“…In addition, the stretching vibration frequency associated with the other functional groups shifted slightly upon complexation, which is due to a change in structural orientation. The appearance of new bands at 450–465 cm −1 and 550–580 cm −1 in the spectra of the complexes, which are assignable to M−O and M−N bond stretching frequencies, [45,46] further confirms the involvement of nitrogen and oxygen atoms of the azomethine and phenolate moieties in the coordination to the metal center.…”

“…34 Also, for HL-Zn complex we found a signal appeared at 2.499 ppm which is due to the acetate group protons. 1 HNMR data hardened the obtained data resulting from FT-IR spectra, which made sure that H 2 L linked to Zn (II) and Th (IV) ions through the nitrogen atom of the azomethine group and hydroxyl group located in the ortho position after the removal of H-atom.…”

“…As a result, the synthesis of new compounds that can alter to give effective biological activity is very important. One of the most important classes of compounds, which functionality constitutes the structure of many types of drugs and active biological compounds is the heterocyclic, thiazoles, and Schiff bases compounds 1 . Typically, heterocyclic compounds with sulfur and nitrogen are employed in many therapeutic contexts.…”

“…As well as plays a signi cant role in co-ordination chemistry because most transition metal ions may easily form stable complexes with them. Antitubercular researchers have been attracted by Schiff base compounds with the thiadiazole as a basic group [12], and anti-cancer [13,14]. This study included the preparation and complexation of Schiff base ligand with various metal salts.…”
