“…We have already reported on pH indicating dyes. 13–15 One is an acid-gas sensing dye that changes from yellow to red when exposed to acid-gas, and the other is a base-gas sensing dye that changes from orange to blue when exposed to base-gas, by modifying the dye structure; to improve the dye affinity toward polyethylenic fabric, it needs to have extreme hydrophobicity as well. To improve color visibility, a new coumarin-based fluorescence dye, whose fluorescence-wavelength color-wavelength behaviors can be changed by exposure to acid-gas, was synthesized by modifying the dye structure to have relatively long alkyl groups.…”
