Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Novel Zn(II) and Cd(II) Schiff Base Complexes as Antimicrobial, Antifungal, and Antioxidant Agents

Abstract: (E)-N,N-Dimethyl-2-((E-1-(2-(p-tolyl)hydrazono)propan-2-ylidene)hydrazine-1-carbothioamide (DMPTHP) and their Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes have been synthesized and characterized. Different tools of analysis such as elemental analyses, IR, mass spectra, and 1H-NMR measurements were used to elucidate the structure of the synthesized compounds. According to these spectral results, the DMPTHP ligand behaved as a mononegatively charged tridentate anion. Modeling and docking studies were investigated and discussed. … Show more

“…leaves are composed of flavonoids, tannins, saponins, terpenoids, and cardiac glycosides, according to a qualitative study conducted previously [ 28 ]. In the current study, there was no positive test for alkaloids for both the Nigerian and South African mistletoe tree extracts, which contradicts many studies conducted before this one [ 13 , 25 ]. This observation may partly be a result of the alkaloids being possibly below the limit of detection for the analysed extracts.…”

“…Changes in color, from purple to yellow, indicate a decrease in absorbance of a DPPH radical. This demonstrates that the antioxidant agents found in a plant extract mixture interact with the hydrogen radicals [ 25 ]. The results for the NGDCM extract are displayed in Figure 1 A.…”

“…A triforce XMTD-3000 was used to evaluate the melting point. The electron ionization technique at 70 eV with an MS-5988 GS-MS Hewlett-Packard apparatus was used to record the mass spectra of the prepared complexes [ 63 ]. The various chelates' IR spectra in the KBr disc in the 4000–400 cm −1 range were evaluated on a PerkinElmer 1650 spectrometer to assess the different ligands-metal ions' binding modes in the chelates and compared to the free ligands [ 64 ].…”

“…[24] Many studies via theoretical calculations have been performed to investigate and improve the performance of different materials in many applications. [25,26] Theoretical applications as molecular docking can be extremely valuable in the pharmaceutical field to predict the efficiency of a structurally known substance as a medicine. [27,28] In this work, we are targeting to (i) synthesize of N-chlorophenyl carbonohydrazonoyl dicyanide, NCCD, (ii) study the reaction of the synthesized NCCD compound with zinc acetate dihydrate, (iii) characterize the synthesized products, utilizing elemental analyses FTIR, NMR ( 1 H, 13 C), XPS, UV/Vis, and single-crystal X-ray molecular structure, (iv) compare experimental data with the DFT calculations of the products and study their molecular docking, and (v) study the in vitro antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, and cytotoxicity of the synthesized compounds.…”
