Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of New 3-Substituted-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine Derivatives as Antimicrobial Agents and DHFR Inhibitors

Abstract: A new series of pyrazolo [3,4-b]pyridine compounds (3a,b-9a-c) was synthesized starting with 2-oxo-6-phenyl-1,2dihydropyridine-3-carbonitriles 1a,b which converted to their 2-chloro analogues 2a,b. By further treatment of of 2a,b with hydrazine hydrate, the key intermediates 3-amino-pyrazolopyridine derivatives 3a,b were afforded.
