Synthesis and Biological Studies of Some Lanthanide Complexes of Schiff Base

Abstract: Four new solid ternary complexes of lanthanide with Schiff base (isoniazid furalacylhydrazone) and sodium salicylate [Ln(FLSY) (Lin)(NO 3 )] NO 3 ¢H 2 O (Ln D La, Ce, Nd, Er; FLSY D isoniazid furalacylhydrazone; Lin D sodium salicylate) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis, 1 H NMR, TG-DTA, and XPS. The antibacterial activities test indicate that all the complexes exhibit moderate antibacterial ability against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus with broad antimic… Show more

“…The ligand and complex antibacterial activity are assessed by means of the paper disc diffusion method with respect to P. aeruginosa, B. cereus, E. coli, and S. aureus [36]. The diameter of the inhibitory zone was determined in millimeters and the results were compared with the standard antibacterial medication Kanamycin-30 shown in Table 5 and represented in Fig.…”

“…The superhelical pBR322 DNA plasmid (0.33 mg ml −1 ) was treated with a metal complex in Tris buffer (50 mmol Tris‐acetate, 18 mmol NaCl buffer, pH 7.2) and incubated at room temperature for 1.5 h. The sample was in a triacetate buffer and the 0.8% agarose gel was electrophoresis at 90 V for 1.5 h. After electrophoresis, the gel was stained with 1 mg ml −1 EtBr and photographed under ultraviolet light for analysis. [ 31 ]…”

“…On the other hand, the lanthanide complexes with biological activities can be used at various fields, just as many studies of researchers [15][16][17][18][19][20] . The results show that, under certain conditions, Ln 3+ ions can not inhibit the Candida albicans and Escherichia coli, while the complexes synthesized by organic ligands and Ln 3+ can inhibit the Candida albicans and Escherichia coli well 21 .…”
