Synthesis and carbon-13 NMR of an unusual tricyclic barbituric acid derivative

Abstract: containing a catalytic amount (0.1 g) of sodium ethoxide. Evaporation of the reaction mixture and chromatography of the residue on silica using ether as the eluent gave 0.23 g (38%) of 6 as colorless crystals, mp 121-122 °C after recrystallization from cyclohexane.
