Synthesis and Characterization of Ag- or Sb-Doped ZnO Nanorods by a Facile Hydrothermal Route

Abstract: ZnO nanorods doped with Ag and Sb have been synthesized by a facile hydrothermal technique. Crystal quality, morphology, chemical/electronic composition, local structure, and vibrational mode properties are investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and micro-Raman spectroscopy. Evidence of dopant incorporation is demonstrated in the XPS measurements of both Sb-doped and Ag-doped ZnO nanorods. From XRD data, it was found that the doped Z… Show more

“…Low-dimensional rods of ZnO can be seen as agglomerations on the substrate. Later these structures can be transferred and dispersed on other substrates, as was described in previous works [4,6,8,9]. No differences in morphology were observed at concentrations as low as 0.5% Cu in comparison with pure ZnO as reported previously [8,12].…”

“…We will first summarize the experimental data reported by Chow et al [6]. ZnO and Cu-doped ZnO low-dimensional rods were grown by a procedure discussed in detail in previous reports [4,9]. P −type Si (100) substrates were used for the synthesis of the ZnO and Cu-ZnO material.…”

“…Because the nature of Ag ions is simple link matrices, their behaviour to surface states in nanomaterials where the surfaces of are becomes prime importance as the size decreases. The sonochemical synthesis of nanomaterial is extensively used to generate novel materials with different properties, because this method can produce similar truncated nanorods with smaller size than those reported by other methods [36][37][38]. The advantages of chemical coprecipitation method through sol-gel process for preparing nanocomposite materials are to get small average particle size and narrow size distribution, homogeneity, purity, and more possibility to obtain nanorods.…”

“…92,138 In contrast, the incorporation of inorganic material into ZnO NRs with a certain concentration has no role on the morphology, but the aforementioned characteristics were notably modified. 139,140 Note that the PEG is completely miscible with water and has found many applications in current technology as antifreeze when mixed with water. 100 This is probably due to its strong hydrogen bonding interaction in water.…”
