Synthesis and Characterization of Allylmelamine Based Polymers

Abstract: Novel linear polymers on the basis of allyl functionalized melamine derivatives, without using formaldehyde as cross‐linking agent, were created. Allylpentamethylmelamine and allyltetramethylmelamine were polymerized by free radical mechanism in substance. Allylpentamethyl‐melamine was also copolymerized with styrene by anionic polymerization. The new polymers offer a broad range of industrial application for melamine derivatives, not only in homopolymerization but also in the copolymerization with other monom… Show more

“…Hydroxymethyl(methylmelamines) are metabolites of antitumor agents such as altretamine (hexamethylmelamine) and trimelamol (trimethylol(trimethylmelamine)), formed by oxidation of a methyl group and subsequent elimination of formaldehyde. ,, These monomers offer a broad range of industrial applications, not only homopolymerized but also copolymerized with other monomers currently under investigation. Recent studies have used methylmelamines as building blocks for the synthesis of functional monomers and coating materials or as fine chemicals. More information about applications of N -methylmelamines were summarized by Bretterbauer and Schwarzinger …”
