Synthesis and Characterization of Bi2WxMo1−xO6 Solid Solutions and Their Application in Photocatalytic Desulfurization under Visible Light

Abstract: Photocatalytic oxidative desulfurization has attracted much attention in recent years due to the continuous tightening of the sulfur content requirements in motor fuels and the disadvantages of the industrial hydrodesulfurization process. This work is devoted to the investigation of the photocatalytic activity of Bi2WxMo1−xO6 solid solutions (x = 1, 0.75, 0.5, 0.25, 0) in the oxidative desulfurization of hydrocarbons under visible light irradiation using hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant. The synthesized photoca… Show more

“…In addition, the peaks related to hexagonal ZnO and orthorhombic Bi 2 WO 6 were found in the diffraction patterns of asprepared composites, unveiling the successful formation of BWZ composites. Moreover, the crystalline size (D) of the photocatalysts can be calculated by Scherrer's formula [22,23]: D = Kλ/βcosθ, where K is the particle shape-constant (normally taken as 0.9), λ is the wavelength of X-ray, β is the full width at half maximum of diffraction peak and θ is the diffraction peak. The average crystallite size of Bi 2 WO 6 and ZnO are 34.7 nm and 18.8 nm, respectively.…”

“…Meanwhile, the linker can act as a light-harvesting antenna to perform a linker-to-cluster charge transition, thus preventing the recombination of the photoexcited electron–hole pairs and improving the photocatalytic performance. 19–22 For example, Aiping Liu et al 23 reported the decoration of CuInS 2 nanoparticles onto ZIF-8 MOF for the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) under UV light irradiation. It was found that the nanocomposite exhibited better catalytic efficiency and durability than pure CuInS 2 nanoparticles.…”
