Synthesis and characterization of bio‐based polyesters derived from 1,10‐decanediol

Abstract: Two kinds of bio‐based polyesters were synthesized from 1,10‐decanediol (DD), dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) or 2,6‐naphthalene dicarboxylic acid (NDCA). Chemical structure, thermal properties and crystal structures, tensile properties and rheological properties were investigated. The glass transition temperature and melting temperature of poly(decamethylene 2,6‐naphthalate) (PDN) are higher than that of poly(decamethylene terephthalate) (PDT). Differential scanning calorimetry and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction r… Show more

“…Additionally, PDDbF compression molded films were subjected to stress-strain measurements (Figure 5) in order to explore their mechanical properties and assess their suitability to practical applications in, for example, flexible packaging [49]. Despite the The tan δ trace (Figure 4b) obtained in the single cantilever mode agrees with the transitions mentioned above, displaying two peaks centered at approximately −24 and 6 • C attributed to T β and T g , respectively.…”

“…Additionally, PDDbF compression molded films were subjected to stress–strain measurements ( Figure 5 ) in order to explore their mechanical properties and assess their suitability to practical applications in, for example, flexible packaging [ 49 ]. Despite the evident importance of mechanical properties for the applications’ evaluation, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first study reporting these features for bisfuranic polyesters.…”

“…A detailed discussion of the 1 H NMR spectroscopy can be found in the next section. PAT ( n = 10) was selected for this study because it is a reference polymer in our research group and is also widely documented in the literature. ,,,,, Furthermore, we anticipated that the kinetic profile would not be significantly altered by changing the diol, since the functional groups and the chemical environment remain the same.…”

“…The resulting dimer is then polymerized in a second step called melt polycondensation. To this end, high temperatures (i.e., 250–280 °C) and a vacuum are applied to remove byproducts (e.g., diol), thereby shifting the equilibrium of the reaction toward polymerization, which is accelerated through the use of a catalyst. …”
