Synthesis and Characterization of Copper(II), Nickel(II), and Cobalt(II) Chelates with Tridentate Schiff Base Ligands Derived from 4-Amino-5-hydroxynaphthalene-2,-7-disulfonic Acid

Abstract: New Schiff bases have been synthesised by the condensation of 4-amino-5-hydroxynaphthalene-2,7-disulfonic acid mono sodium salt with ovanillin (H 2 L 1 ) and salicylaldehyde (H 2 L 2 ), and their complexes with copper(II), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) have been prepared. All compounds were characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR, electronic spectral data, magnetic moments, mass spectroscopy and molar conductance. The 13 C NMR and 1 H NMR spectra of the Schiff base ligands have been recorded. The results suggest… Show more

“…A large number of the Schiff bases and their complexes have been studied in the past because of their wide application and interesting and important properties [3][4][5]. Metal complexes of the Schiff bases derived from substituted salicylaldehydes and various amines have been widely investigated [4,5]. They can serve as models of biologically important species and find applications in biomimetic catalytic reactions, materials chemistry, and industry [5][6][7].…”

“…Metal complexes of Schiff bases derived from substituted salicylaldehydes and various amines have been widely investigated [2,3] because of their wide applicability [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. Chelating ligands containing O and N donor atoms show broad biological activity and are of special interest because of the variety of ways in which they are bonded to metal ions [10].…”
