Synthesis and characterization of crosslinked chitosan immobilized on bentonite and its grafted products with polyaniline

Abstract: Chitosan immobilized bentonite (CIB) namely chitosan‐coated bentonite (5% chitosan content) was synthesized in 2% acetic acid solution, followed by crosslinking, using epichlorohydrien (ECH). The so‐obtained crosslinked chitosan immobilized on bentonite (CIB‐ECH) and CIB composites were grafted with polyaniline (PANI) through oxidative‐radical copolymerization using ammonium peroxydisulfate in acidic medium to produce PANI‐grafted crosslinked chitosan immobilized on bentonite (PANI‐g‐CIB‐ECH) and PANI‐grafted‐… Show more

“…The spectrum of chitosan showed a band at 1602 cm À1 for -NH 2 bending. [13][14][15][16][17][18][19] The spectrum showed a band at 1260 cm À1 that could be attributed to the saccharide structure. 20 The absorption band at 1156 cm À1 was assigned to the anti-symmetric stretching of C-O-C bridges, with C-O stretching vibrations present at 1066 cm À1 .…”

“…This distortion leads to a decrease in its crystallinity, thereby causing a decrease in the peak intensity. 51,52 The amorphous nature of P(VP-Acn-Acr) also increases the grinding ability and dispersibility of the polymer, hence making it the most deserving candidate to be used as the adhesive.…”
