Synthesis and characterization of fluorinated poly(amide imide)s derived from 1,4‐bis(2′‐trifluoromethyl‐4′‐trimellitimidophenoxy)benzene and aromatic diamines

Abstract: A series of fluorinated poly(amide imide)s were prepared from 1,4-bis(2Јtrifluoromethyl-4Ј-trimellitimidophenoxy)benzene and various aromatic diamines [3,3Ј,5,5Ј-tetramethyl-4,4Ј-diaminediphenylmethane, ␣,␣-bis(4-amino-3,5-dimethyl phenyl)-3Ј-trifluoromethylphenylmethane, 1,4-bis(4Ј-amino-2Ј-trifluoromethylphenoxy)benzene, 4-(3Ј-trifluoromethylphenyl)-2,6-bis(3Ј-aminophenyl)pyridine, and 1,1-bis(4Ј-aminophenyl)-1-(3Ј-trifluoromethylphenyl)-2,2,2-trifluoroethane]. The fluorinated poly(amide imide)s, prepared by… Show more

“…PAIs are thermally stable and processable compounds which have attracted great attention in the recent past decades, due to their exclusive combination of toughness, lightness, and dimensional stability at high temperatures. [13][14][15][16] Ionic liquids (ILs), which have been widely promoted as 'green solvents', are attracting much attention for their applications in many fields of chemistry and in industries, which is due to their chemical stability, thermal stability, low vapor pressure, excellent ability to dissolve organic compounds, salts, and metals, facile recyclabilities, high specific solvent abilities, and high ionic conductivity properties. [17][18][19] ILs are also investigated as components of the polymeric matrixes (such as polymer gels), as templates for porous polymers, and as novel electrolytes for electrochemical polymerizations.…”

“…In general, the design and synthesis of soluble and thermally stable polymers, such as polyimides,13–17 poly(amide‐imide)s,18–22 poly(ether‐imide)s23–27 and poly(ester‐imide)s28–32 is an attractive topic. The solubility of wholly aromatic polymers that show an excellent heat resistance can be improved by introducing sterically hindered bulky units into the backbone.…”

“…If the pendent groups are carefully chosen, it is possible for one to promote solubility without impairing the thermal and mechanical properties to any great extent. The combination of these two structural modifications minimized the trade‐off between the processability and useful/positive properties, such as the solubility of aromatic PAIs 11–24…”
