Synthesis and characterization of graft copolymers PnBA-g-PS by miniemulsion polymerization

Abstract: In this paper, poly(n-butyl acrylate)-g-poly(styrene) graft copolymers were synthesized by macromonomer technique and miniemulsion copolymerization. The PS macromonomers were obtained by an activator generated by electron transfer atom transfer radical polymerization (AGET ATRP) in emulsion system and subsequent allylation. Then the copolymerization of different PS macromonomers with nBA was carried out in miniemulsion system, obtaining graft copolymers with different molecular weight. The latex particles and … Show more

“…The FTIR spectrums [33] of different samples after purification are shown in Figure 4 A Figure 4B) and double-tailed PS macromonomer (H g' and H f , 2H, Figure 4C) can be seen clearly at 5.2~5.3 ppm and 5.75 .9 ppm, [31] respectively, which confirmed, combined with FTIR data, that macromonomers have been successfully synthesized by Steglich esterification.…”

“…Particular attention to investigation of the model Pd/CeO 2 catalysts is called for by the considerable number of practical applications of their main components Pd and СeO 2 : emission of exhaust gases from motor vehicles [1][2][3] , protection of the environment from harmful impurities [4][5][6][7][8][9] , in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry [10][11][12] , and others. The catalysts containing Pd and CeO 2 are used most often for the oxidation of CO and hydrocarbons 8,[13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20] .…”

“…As a result of the grafting process, the formation of thin polymer brush layer on a solid linear backbone of polymers is observed. These processes lead to the addition of new functional groups to polymers and thus the preparation of various structure materials which can be practically applied as stabilizers, modifiers, compatibilizers, emulsifiers, plastics, impact resistant materials, adsorbents, drug delivery systems, etc . The synthesis of various structure copolymers by applying the graft copolymerization is known.…”

“…The copolymers of carbohydrate polymers, e.g., starch, cellulose, dextran, carboxymethylcellulose, lignocellulose, alginate, chitosan, etc. and various structure vinyl monomers, e.g., styrene, methacrylates, acrylates can be synthesized . In addition, the graft copolymers of synthetic polymers such as (poly(chloroethyl vinyl ether)‐g‐polystyrene)comb‐b‐(poly(chloropyran ethoxy vinyl ether)‐g‐polyisoprene)comb, (meth)acrylate copolymer grafted with long fluorinated side chain, Nylon 6‐g‐poly(acrylic acid), polyethylene‐g‐poly(acrylic acid), polyaniline‐g‐(sulfonated polyurethane), poly(N‐vinylpyrrolidinone‐g‐styrene), etc.…”
