Synthesis and Characterization of Magnetoelectric Nanomaterial Composed of Fe3O4 and Polyindole

Abstract: Magnetoelectric polymer nanocomposite is synthesized using conducting polyindole and nano‐sized magnetite (Fe3O4) particles through the in situ polymerization method. The effect of nanoparticles content on the polyindole matrix is studied by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and DC conductivity measurements. FTIR and UV spectra of the composite show the intermolecular interaction between… Show more

“…Figure b shows the FTIR spectra of PANI/CuS nanocomposite. The prominent sharp and intense spectral band at 616 cm −1 is assigned to typical absorption of CuS . It is also evident from the figure that the incorporation of CuS nanoparticle to PANI causes some observable changes in the spectrum of composites.…”

“…Metal nanoparticles with different sizes and shapes can be mixed with conducting polymer to form composite materials, which represent a new class of materials that may combine desirable physical characteristics of both organic and metallic component with single composition. The metallic portion offers the electrical properties, whereas the polymer part can provide thermal stability and mechanical properties to the fabricated polymer . Fabrication of polyaniline (PANI) composite with various materials has received great attention because of their unique properties and applications in various electrical devices .…”

“…However, with increase in concentration of nanoparticles (above 7 wt%), the volume of nanoparticles became larger, but the volume of interfaces decreases, which is well clear from the SEM analysis. Due to the decrease in volume of interfaces, the contribution to the dielectric constant by space charge polarisation and the rotation of the direction of polarisation take place in the interfaces decreases [25]. As a result, the dielectric constant decreases with increase in the concentration of fillers.…”

“…This resulted in a lower conductivity. 31 The conductivity of the composite depended on the concentration of filler particles, the filler aggregating tendency, and the shape and morphology of the matrix polymer. We observed from the figure that the conductivity of the composite increased with increasing concentration of sericin particles up to 10 wt %; this was followed by a decrease in the conductivity when the concentration was increased to 15 wt %.…”
